In an interview given on the Bom Dia, Minister program, on Thursday (11), André Fufuca, Minister of Sports, reinforced the importance of regulating and supervising the sports betting sector in Brazil.
He highlighted that sports betting, popularly known as “bets”, can benefit sport. However, the minister believes that the government needs to adopt strict measures to ensure transparency and fairness in all transactions.
During the interview, Fufuca was clear in stating that the Ministry of Sports will be strict in combating any form of irregularity in the betting sector.
He mentioned that complaints are being analyzed and assured that, on his part, there will be full commitment to ensuring that operations are within legality.
“I think the issue of betting will be beneficial to the sport. We cannot confuse the bad with the good. We have to separate the wheat from the chaff. Complaints that are being made will be investigated and I guarantee that, on the part of the Ministry of Sports, all the rigor will be used so that we have maximum honesty”.
Sports betting secretariat
Furthermore, the minister highlighted the creation of the Sports Betting Secretariat, which aims to monitor and regulate sports betting. This new secretariat will work together with the Ministry of Treasury to grant approvals to betting companies that wish to operate in the country.
The Ministry of Sports ensures that all operations will follow the rules, and will investigate and punish any type of fraud.
Fufuca emphasized that integrity is a priority for the Ministry. Therefore, the new sports integrity board will play a fundamental role in the process, ensuring the smoothness of activities. He highlighted the need to avoid any illegality and assured that the culprits will be punished.
Furthermore, the minister pointed out the benefits that sports betting can bring to society. He explained that taxes collected from betting will finance areas such as health, public security, tourism and sport, directly benefiting the population.
Fufuca stated that he will use these resources responsibly to improve the training of athletes in Brazil, both at grassroots and high-performance levels.
“I guarantee that on the part of the Ministry of Sports, all bets resources will be very well used, especially because we have a great demand and an expectation that this resource can improve training, both at base and high performance in our country”, concluded.
