The Union of Lotteries for Integrity in Sport andf the Monitoring and Intelligence Group (ULIS) brought together the main entities in the global lottery market.

Among them was the only state lottery in Brazil, Lottopar. At the meeting, the sports monitoring and betting market actions developed in the qualification stages for the Olympics were presented.

These same actions will be applied during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Lottopar will work against manipulation of competitions

The main objective is to maintain the integrity and essential values of sport against match-fixing and corruption. According to the International Olympic Committee (IOC), during the qualification period for the Paris Olympic Games alone, 268 suspected cases of manipulation were recorded.

Most of the suspicious events occurred in Europe, mainly at tennis tournaments and football matches. Therefore, the implementation of these monitoring actions demonstrates the commitment to sporting integrity.

Then, during the Olympic Games, Lottopar will receive alerts of possible signs of manipulation. Therefore, depending on the occurrence and the level of the alert, the municipality may request that authorized sites withdraw bets on the sport under suspicion.

In this way, Lottopar is able to guarantee a favorable environment for sports betting for the people of Paraná.

Lottopar and ULIS

As a regulatory body, Lottopar is associated with ULIS to strengthen sporting integrity and bring more transparency to the licensed sports betting environment in Paraná. The municipality has access to various services provided by the entity, including:

  • Monitoring sports betting patterns worldwide;
  • Training and capacity building;
  • Seminars and workshops to prevent game manipulation;
  • Intelligence and information services

Among the 36 sports at the Olympics, some are available on betting sites, such as table tennis, beach and indoor volleyball, boxing, cycling, basketball, tennis, golf, handball, rugby and football. This reinforces the importance of strategic sports monitoring.

To ensure even greater fairness in sports betting, the IOC, together with monitoring entities, such as ULIS, determined that anyone accredited for the Olympic Games is prohibited from placing bets, under penalty of losing their accreditation.

Impressive Olympics numbers

The French Olympics will take place between July 26th and August 11th. They will be:

  • 19 days of competitions
  • 329 events
  • More than 10 thousand athletes
  • More than 200 National Olympic Committees
  • It will also have 20 thousand accredited journalists
  • It will have 45 thousand volunteers
  • More than 600,000 meals served in Olympic villages

ULIS monitors sports betting globally to detect suspicious patterns. It is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, but has offices in Canada, Denmark and Hong Kong.

The entity is a partner of the IOC and Interpol. Furthermore, she is one of the observers of the Statutory Committee of the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions.

Lottopar is the only Brazilian entity affiliated with ULIS. This ensures a close relationship with the main global players in the lottery and sports industry. All this to preserve ethical and integrity practices in the betting market.
