The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting (CPIMJAE) will meet next Wednesday (10) at 2 pm. The president of Clube Atlético Patrocinense, Roberto Avatar, was summoned to the hearing.
The manager will be a central witness on the suspicion of game manipulation.
CPI will be based on a report made by Sportradar
The match in question was Patrocinense’s 3-0 defeat to Inter de Limeira which took place on June 1st of this year. The match is under investigation by the Federal Police and the person who presented the request was Senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO), president of the CPI.
The investigation is based on a report from the company Sportradar, mentioned in a letter from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
According to Kajuru, “this report pointed out that the movement of bookmakers indicated prior knowledge that Patrocinense would lose the first half by at least two goals. This behavior suggests the possibility of result manipulation.”
According to Sportradar, 99% of bets on the “first-half total goals” market were on the result that came to fruition, raising serious doubts about the integrity of the competition.
Furthermore, the PF discovered that a betting company had signed a partnership with Patrocinense to influence the result of the match. The Minas Gerais club signed several players managed by the company.
So, in total, there were 11 search and seizure warrants based on the complaints and in several cities, including:
- Sponsorship (MG)
- São José do Rio Preto (SP)
- Tanguá (RJ)
- Nova Friburgo (RJ)
- São Paulo (SP)
- Rio de Janeiro (RJ).
Manipulation CPI calls representative of the company Air Golden
Kajuru also filed the request (REQ 85/2024 – CPIMJAE) to hear Anderson Ibrahim. He is a representative of the company Air Golden, which managed Patrocinense football at the time of the match.
But, coincidentally, Air Golden dissolves the partnership one day after the game. Ibrahim reportedly refused to speak to the press about the breach of contract, following instructions from the company’s legal department.
Therefore, the hearing promises to be a crucial moment in the investigation, shedding light on practices that may be affecting the integrity of sport in Brazil.
Thus, the CPI for Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting continues to deepen its investigations, seeking to guarantee transparency and justice in sport.
