Google requested more time to respond to the request from the CPI for the Match-Fixing and Sports Betting. The senators authorized the breaking of the telematic confidentiality of the alleged leader of a gang that manipulated bets on this year’s football championship in the Federal District, Candangão.
The request was made by Senator Romário, who seeks to access William Pereira Rogatto‘s emails and Facebook account. According to the Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT), Rogatto worked with two Santa Maria players to manipulate results and influence bets.
They were targets of an operation in March called End of the Game. Rogatto would also have participated in similar schemes in São Paulo and Sergipe.
Google’s response to the Senate
In response to the senators, Google stated that “its purpose of cooperation with the Brazilian authorities is firm, respecting the parameters of the Brazilian Constitution and legislation, and remains at the disposal of the authorities for any clarifications”.
However, the company requested more time to comply with the Sports Betting CPI request
This situation highlights the complexity of investigation processes and the need for cooperation between technology companies and authorities. Breaching telematic confidentiality is an extreme measure, but essential for transparency and justice in sport.
Furthermore, match fixing is a serious problem that affects the integrity of sport and public trust. Operations like Fim do Jogo are crucial to combating these illicit practices and ensuring that sporting events are fair and competitive.
Sports Betting CPI investigates alleged rigged game in Series B
The presidents of Londrina and Tombense, Getúlio Marques Castilho and Lane Gaviole, stated in a statement to the Sports Betting CPI, that they did not observe any irregularities in the Série B game between their teams on May 19, 2023.
The match, won by Londrina 2-0, is under investigation by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD). In the statement made on Wednesday (3), both directors said they had not noticed anything unusual in the conduct of referee Jefferson Ferreira de Morais.
The match raised suspicions due to a yellow card received by Tombense defender Wesley in stoppage time. Because the warning benefited several bets made in Aparecida de Goiânia, the city where the referee lives.
