Brazilians’ hearts beat stronger not only for football, but also for other sports, reveals a survey carried out by Opinion Box at the request of Aposta Legal Brasil.

Thus, the national passion extends to volleyball, Formula 1, basketball and tennis, captivating the attention of a very diverse audience.

According to Aposta Legal, football remains a national passion

The survey shows that, despite football being the favorite for 89% of those interviewed, the following sports gained prominence on the national scene:

  • Volleyball (38%)
  • Formula 1 (36%)
  • Basketball (32%)
  • Tennis (31%)

Surprisingly, 9 out of 10 Brazilians have the habit of supporting or following a team, with support for national clubs standing out.

The survey was carried out with men and women over 18 years of age who support and/or follow athletes, teams and international championships or competitions.

But when it comes to volleyball, an interesting fact shows the preference of women (48%) in this sport compared to men (32%).

  • The competitive level is much higher than that of Brazil – 48%

In any case, 60% of fans who responded to the survey say they usually watch international championships at least once a week.

The main choices to follow these broadcasts are:

  • Closed television (70%)
  • YouTube (59%)
  • Open TV (55%).

Comparing national and international championships, the research reveals that, in the opinion of Brazilians who follow both, international tournaments are:

  • superior in terms of structure (61%)
  • better performance of athletes (54%)
  • best sponsorships (50%).

However, both championships are praised for the quality of both public and fans, but with a better evaluation of international events.

  • World Cup qualifiers – 60%
  • Champions League – 58%

  • State Championship (Mineiro, Gaúcho, Carioca, Paulista championship, etc.) – 48%
  • Premier League – 42%
  • NBA – 29%
  • UFC – 29%
  • Formula 1 GPs / Formula 2 GPs / Formula 3 GPs – 29%
  • Europa League – 28%
  • European Championships (German, Spanish, French Championships, etc.) – 28%

When it comes to preference for athletes, there are Lionel Messi (57%), Cristiano Ronaldo (56%) and Neymar Jr. (53%). But, surprisingly, former athletes like Pelé and Ronaldinho Gaúcho continue to win over fans, cited as idols.

Therefore, the research, carried out by Opinion Box with 525 online interviews, covers men and women over 18 years of age.

The majority belong to class DE (50%), followed by class C (36%) and AB (14%). Thus, age diversity also stands out, with 27% aged 50 or over and 22% between 30 and 39 years old.
