The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) reinforced its commitment to the integrity of football by appointing Eduardo Gussem, an experienced lawyer and former Attorney General of Rio de Janeiro, as its Integrity Officer.
This appointment, announced by the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, is an important milestone in the fight against match-fixing in Brazilian football.
Facing match-fixing
Gussem’s appointment comes at a crucial time, with the rise of online sports betting and the associated risks of match-fixing.
The CBF, following guidelines from FIFA and CONMEBOL, is intensifying efforts to ensure that Brazilian football remains a fair and honest sport.
During his inauguration, Eduardo Gussem highlighted the importance of the new Integrity Unit:
“The Integrity Unit at CBF is a new and pioneering structure. We aim to bring rigidity and security to football.
Today there are several questions, the issue of sports betting and the manipulation of results. And we will carefully analyze all of this, building quick solutions for the public, fans and the football world.
FIFA has already signaled that it will use this Integrity Unit as a pilot for the entire world”.
Future strategies and actions under the leadership of Eduardo Gussem
Under the leadership of Eduardo Gussem, the CBF Integrity Unit will focus on developing and implementing effective strategies to combat match-fixing.
This includes carefully analyzing all betting-related activities and implementing quick solutions to protect the integrity of the sport.
The CBF‘s initiative to create a dedicated Integrity Unit is seen as a model for other sporting organizations. FIFA has already expressed interest in using this model as an example for other national federations.
