The sports betting CPI on the Chamber of Deputies that investigates the manipulation of results of football matches meets this Tuesday, 22nd, to discuss interference in arbitration with the president of the Arbitration Council of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Wilson Luiz Seneme.

He was convened at the request of licensed deputy Yury do Paredão (CE), and deputies Luciano Vieira (PL-RJ), Beto Pereira (PSDB-MS), Danilo Forte (União-CE), Mersinho Lucena (PP-PB).

Lucena highlighted the following: “The conduct of the referees is capable of directly influencing the results of the matches and the placing of bets. In this sense, the analysis of their postures is of paramount importance to ascertain the existence or not of manipulations in soccer games”.

The deputies believe that the guest will be able to provide valuable information about the protocols followed by the referees, in addition to training and evaluations of these professionals.

About the sports betting CPI

Chaired by Deputy Julio Arcoverde (PP-PI) and reported by Deputy Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE), the sports betting CPI was installed on May 17 following investigations carried out by the Public Ministry of Goiás that raised suspicions of match-fixing of four Serie B games.

Parliamentarians believe that the irregularities have also been committed in matches from other series, including in the elite of Brazilian football last year. Several players have already been punished by Sports Justice with fines, suspensions and bans.

According to Agência Câmara de Notícias, the term of office of the collegiate was extended for another 60 days last week.
