Four more athletes will be judged this Thursday, the 12th, by the Full Court of the Superior Court of Sports Justice for Football (STJD) for match-fixing in Brazilian football in 2022.

Last month, players who played for Sampaio Corrêa were punished with different penalties, from suspension to elimination, by the 5th Disciplinary Commission. The case will be reported by auditor Maurício Neves Fonseca.

The STJD Prosecutor’s complaint is based on the evidence collected by the Goiás Public Prosecutor’s Office in Operation Maximum Penalty.

  • Ygor Catatau – fine of BRL 70 thousand
  • Matheusinho – 720 days and a fine of BRL 70 thousand

  • André Luiz Guimarães Siqueira Júnior – fine of BRL 50 thousand

Match manipulation: STJD judged seven other athletes last week

Last Thursday, the 6th, the Plenum judged seven other players also accused of match fixing.

As in the judgment of the 4th Disciplinary Commission, held last month, Igor Cariús, formerly of Cuiabá, was acquitted for lack of evidence. In the session, the auditors decided to ask the CBF for an international extension of the decision.

Rapporteur of the process, the auditor Luiz Felipe Bulus stated at the time that the athletes involved in cases of match-fixing deserved a strict penalty. “It is undeniable that it will only be possible to keep football alive in our country if we respond appropriately to the highly serious infringements related to this issue”.

“After all, there can only be passion if the fan has a doubt and a certainty: the doubt about who will win the match and the certainty that the players of their favorite team are there to play and win, and not to negotiate”, added Bulus.
