The sports betting CPI has a meeting this Tuesday, 6th, to approve requests for summoning several people. There will be no testimonies at this meeting, set up to investigate cases of game manipulation investigated by the Public Ministry of Goiás, responsible for Operation Maximum Penalty.

There are 71 requests on the agenda, however, some of them are repeated. These are the cases, for example, of the director general of the Federal Police, Andrei Augusto Passos Rodrigues, invited by the deputies Fred Costa (Patriota-MG), Yury do Paredão (PL-CE) and Albuquerque (Republicanos-RR) to “help” , “contribute” and “provide information” to the Commission, and the president of the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), Wesley Callegari Cardia.

The variety of guests to attend the sports betting CPI is so wide that it ranges from the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos Neto, to the Minister of Sports, Ana Moser.

The 15 players who have already been denounced by the MP were called to testify at the CPI, as well as recruiters and financiers also denounced in the scheme, including Bruno Lopez de Moura and Thiago Chambó, who are arrested and are appointed as leaders of the gang.

Eduardo Bauermann, a player away from Santos, was summoned, as an investigator, by deputies Luciano Vieira (PL-RJ) and Yury do Paredão. The player had a light sentence in the sports court of just 12 matches.

According to Zero Hora, the deputies called the president of the Goiás Football Referees Commission, and president of the Referees Union of the same state.

André Rizek, journalist and presenter of the Globo group, was summoned, as a witness, by Deputy Márcio Marinho (Republicanos-RJ), to “talk about the similarities of the 2005 Mafia do Apito with the bookmaker scheme”.

There are 13 requests for invitations, 44 for summons, 12 that cover both and one for requisition, this one made by Deputy Ricardo Silva (PSD-SP), who asks for help from the Federal Police, the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) and the Council of Control of Financial Activities (COAF) in the “advice” of the parliamentarians that integrate the CPI of sports betting.

Rapporteur claims that sports betting CPI will not ‘end in pizza’

The CPI has Felipe Carreras (PSB-PE) as rapporteur and Julio Arcoverde (PP-PI) as president. The first vice-presidency is André Figueiredo (PDT-CE) and the second, Daniel Agrobom (PL-GO).

Carreras assured that the Commission would not “end up in pizza”. “Brazilian football is sick, it is in crisis. There are many questions we have. This CPI, you can write it down, write it down and break it down, it will not end in pizza”, he said.

The prosecutor Fernando Cesconetto, the general attorney Cyro Terra Peres, both responsible for the so-called Maximum Penalty Operation, and the president of Vila Nova, Hugo Jorge Bravo, who denounced cases of manipulation within his own club, were the first guests of the CPI.

According to the organization, there will be meetings, hearings, official missions and other steps until June 13. From the 18th to the 31st of the same month, the deputies will be in recess. Afterwards, activities resume until the sports betting CPI is finalized. This is expected to happen by the end of September.
