Corinthians players attended a lecture on sports betting and integrity in football this Monday, the 15th. The meeting took place due to the cases of match-fixing in Brazilian football that are being discovered with the unfolding of the Maximum Penalty Operation.

According to the Meu Timão website, Delegate Dr. César Saad, from the Delegation for the Repression of Sports Crimes, alongside lawyer Luiz Felipe Santoro, responsible for sports betting and sports professionals, gave the lecture to the club’s athletes.

The focus was on how to behave in case of being approached by third parties and instructed to do something in a game in exchange for a sum of money. The conversation also aimed to guide athletes on the possible consequences that players caught in bid and game manipulation schemes may suffer.

In this way, those responsible for the lecture clarified in the criminal, civil and sports aspects, the ways in which athletes can be penalized in case of involvement in this type of irregularity. So far, no Corinthians player has been cited in Operation Maximum Penalty, which is being carried out by the Public Ministry.

The recommendation of the officials to the Corinthians squad was to immediately denounce those responsible in case of attempted enticement for alleged schemes, so that the situation can be investigated by the competent authorities.

Operation Maximum Penalty II

In early April, the MP-GO launched an operation to carry out arrest and search and seizure warrants in 16 municipalities in six states (Goiás, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina) to dismantle a criminal association specializing in the manipulation of football match results to favor sports betting.

“The investigation indicates that the manipulations were diverse and aimed, for example, at ensuring the punishment of a certain player for yellow card, red card, commission of maximum penalty, in addition to ensuring the number of corners during the match and even the score of defeat of a given team at halftime. There are indications that the conduct previously requested from the players sought to enable those investigated to achieve large profits in bets placed on sports houses websites, also using accounts registered in the name of third parties to increase income”, said the MP’s press office. -GO on occasion.

Operation Maximum Penalty

Operation Maximum Penalty II is an offshoot of Operation Maximum Penalty, launched in February 2023 and which resulted in the filing of a complaint, already received by the Judiciary, with the imputation of the crimes of integrating a criminal organization and corruption in sports.
