Arizona definitely had a strong month in August, with the state reporting a total of $361 million in stakes. Of that total, $2.77 million ended up as contributions to the state coffers, generated through tax revenue on sports betting.

This is the third largest amount generated in a 12 month period. The highest tax revenue generated by the state is now $4.1 million in May 2022, followed by the $3.2 million collected in November 2021.

August results remain strong for Arizona. Overall, the region has enjoyed strong contributions throughout August, despite operators having contributed less to the state. Most of this has to do with the fact that fans of the sport are also likely to win more prizes, with some impressive gains on their bets.

Regardless, the Arizona Department of Gaming is encouraged by the latest numbers and expects even higher numbers in the coming months, driven by the NFL, NBA and the World Cup.

Arizona takes a cut of 8% of adjusted retail revenues and 10% of adjusted gross revenues for online gaming. However, state sports betting is not expected to peak during regular NFL or NBA seasons. On the contrary, the state is looking forward to the next season of March Madness. Last March, during Madness, Arizona reported a total of $691 million in bets, a record to date.

The majority of sports betting in August was generated by the mobile segment with $359 million compared to the retail sector, which generated around $1.5 million. In total, the operators with the most bets on events were: DraftKings with $129 million and FanDuel with $108 million.
