Gallery Furniture owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale – a huge supporter of the Houston Astros – is known for placing big bets on games and sporting events. And if your favorite baseball team wins the World Series, it will set a record in sports betting history.
The businessman invested $10 million in bets for the Astros to win the World Series, with the average payout being 7.5-to-1. If the team succeeds, the payout of approximately $75 million would be the largest in sports betting history.
While McIngvale would receive a record payout, Gallery Furniture’s customers would also be reaping the benefits. The store has been running promotions for years where customers who spend a certain amount of money receive their furniture for free in the event that a designated team wins their sport’s championship. This is once again the case for the 2022 MLB season.
McIngvale upped the ante this time, offering customers the opportunity to double their purchase (meaning someone who bought furniture worth $5,000 would get $10,000 back) if the Astros win the World Series.
Mattress Mack’s Latest Bets
The businessman was on a bad streak in betting this year 2022, but in April he managed to recover, as he bet $5.5 million on the University of Kansas to be national basketball champion at odds of 2.90. The team won the championship and the Texan took home a $10.5 million prize in return.
The businessman is already known for his expressive and ‘bold’ bets, where he always seeks to invest a high amount in even greater odds. Sometimes the Texan manages to withdraw impressive prizes as in the case mentioned above, and this time he may even win the biggest prize in the history of sports betting, a feat that, if carried out, will hardly be surpassed.
