Betfred has announced a three-year extension of its partnership with Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), remaining a sponsor of the Betfred World Matchplay competition. The bookmaker has partnered with the darts entity since 2019, and will now be, for at least seven years, the main sponsor of the Blackpool competition.

“Our sponsorship of Betfred World Matchplay has been a brilliant success over the last four years and I am delighted that we will be working with PDC until at least 2025,” said Betfred CEO Fred Done.

“Betfred World Matchplay is one of my favorite sporting events and the 2022 edition was wonderful. You can see by the pattern of players and Blackpool loving crowds how much this tournament means to everyone and we are already looking forward to next year’s event and beyond,” added Fred.

The deal was confirmed ahead of Sunday’s Betfred World Matchplay final between Gerwyn Price and Michael van Gerwen, which ended a very successful nine-day championship.

“Announcing our new deal with Betfred is a great way to end a memorable week,” added PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter. “Betfred has enjoyed tremendous exposure over the past four years with their sponsorship of World Matchplay and we are delighted to continue working with them for at least the next three years.”

In addition, the company also announced that it will donate £35,428 to Macmillan Cancer Support, a group that supports people battling breast cancer, following their exceptional charity activity at Betfred World Matchplay.

The bookmaker donated £50 for every 180 points scored over the nine days of play, with World Matchplay showing a record 367 high scores for a £10,000 charity bonus.

Players – including runner-up Gerwyn Price, world champion Peter Wright and female star Lisa Ashton – as well as celebrity guests also participated in a nine-game challenge, with a £1 per point donation to charity – which totaled over £7k.

“This was a particularly memorable moment for Betfred World Matchplay and the incredible pattern produced by our players is reflected in this incredible amount that will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support,” added Porter.
