Brazilian team is favorite to win the 2022 Women's Copa America

This Friday, the 8th, the ball starts rolling for the 2022 Copa América Feminina, in Colombia. The competition is valid for the Paris 2024 Olympics and the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Oceania. Betfair, a specialist in odds calculations, projected the chances of the Brazilian team and its opponents.

The competition takes place between the 8th and 30th of July in the cities of Armenia, Cali and Bucaramanga, in Colombia, and Brazil’s debut will be this Saturday, the 9th, against Argentina, at Estadio Centenario. Subsequently, the Brazilians play in group B against Uruguay (July 12), Venezuela (July 18) and Peru (July 21).

The two finalist teams will go directly to the Olympic Games, in addition to the top three teams qualifying for the 2023 World Cup which will take place in Australia and New Zealand. The teams that finish in fourth and fifth position will be entitled to play-off for the World Cup. The Copa America final is scheduled for July 30, in Bucaramanga.

The kick-off of the Brazilian team, which will be against rival Argentina, will feature four players who play in Verdão, sponsored by Betfair. Midfielders Ary Borges and Duda Santos, and striker Bia Zaneratto will represent Palmeiras for the canary national team, on the other hand, defender Agustina is present in the Argentina national team.

This will be the first time in the club’s history that Palmeiras will have four players in a Women’s Copa America. In Argentina, defender Agustina was called up for the third time to wear the Albiceleste shirt. With passages in the base categories of the rival country, the defender was a silver medalist at the 2019 Pan American Games and played in the World Cup for the main team.

In 2021, the club ceded 15 players to Brazil, with 11 athletes for the main team and another four for the basic categories (U-17 and U-20), being the main Brazilian club with calls to the selections.

Brazil is the team with the highest number of victories in the Women’s Copa America, with seven triumphs in eight editions. In total, there are 41 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses in 44 games in the Copa América Feminina. Although the first edition in 1991, under the name of South American Women’s Championship, Brazil only lost points against Argentina and Colombia.

The debut rival was the only team that managed to beat Brazil in previous editions. The Brazilian stumble happened in the Mar del Plata edition, in 2006, guaranteeing the title to the Argentinas, and the unprecedented participation in the Beijing Olympics, in 2008.

Specialist in odds calculations, Betfair has calculated who is the favorite in the confrontation between Brazil and Argentina. Brazil comes out with an 86% chance of winning the game, while Argentina has 4% and equality on the scoreboard has a 10% probability of happening.
