Marathonbet stopped allowing new customers to sign up as of yesterday (4th April). Existing customers can no longer deposit or place bets until April 14th.
After this period customers will be able to access their accounts to check outstanding balances, although they have cautioned: “We may require additional documentation to process your withdrawals”.
“As the Marathonbet brand is operated globally, recent and ongoing events in Europe have had a significant impact on us,” the company said. “We regret to inform you that we have taken the decision to temporarily suspend the services offered on the marathonbet.co.uk website.”
The brand has not given any indication of when the site will be able to resume activity. Both the Marathonbet.com.br website and the mbet.com.br website will be closed.
However, the Marathonbet sites licensed by the authorities in Italy, Spain and Denmark will continue to operate as normal, along with the marathonbet.com site licensed by the government of Curaçao.
About Marathonbet and its entry into the UK
Marathonbet has been operating in the CIS markets of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan since 1997. The betting group launched its UK presence in 2015, marking its new entry into Western European territories that included Spain and Italy.
Establishing its presence in the UK, the betting brand would operate its business under the ownership of Panbet Ltd and would open offices located in the city of Brighton and Hove.
In 2019, the company was reported to have broken UK game sponsorship records by becoming the official partner of Manchester City FC – a deal that would see the bookmaker promoted at the front of the Premier League squad’s coaching tops.
Long established in Russia, the brand was one of the few bookmakers authorized to offer an online sports betting property by consent of the communication agency Kremlin Roskomnadzor.
