The recent claim by John Textor, the majority shareholder of Botafogo, to reevaluate the agreements of the carioca club surprised many partners. However, the only decision of the last few hours was that Volt would no longer be the club’s new supplier of sports equipment.
That’s because Textor informed that it would suspend numerous sponsorship contracts in force. However, the Volt – which had not even been announced – is the only one that will not continue to be associated with the Fogão. The new manager’s intention is for the uniforms to be marketed worldwide, especially in England and the United States.
According to the GE, the arrangements were made in a different scenario than what Botafogo has today with the transformation into SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol). With serious financial difficulties until the last season, Botafogo formalized agreements that generated revenue. But, the situation is different from what the club currently has, even planning the expansion of its brand internationally.
Therefore, all sponsorships tend to be reviewed by Botafogo with partner companies. Also according to GloboEsporte, the objective is to reach a new agreement and not reach termination. The duration of current contracts varies from months to years.
For John Textor, Botafogo needs to have a greater assessment of the strategy to be followed from now on. Regarding the supplier of sports equipment, Textor stressed that he wants to close with a brand “recognized for high quality and large-scale distribution” in order to act as a partner in the process of globalization of the carioca club.
EstrelaBet and the master sponsorship of Botafogo
In November last year, EstrelaBet, a brand that is part of the Stars Group, officially signed a master sponsorship contract with Botafogo. The existing partnership was expanded until the end of 2022 and the brand, which was previously on the sleeves of shirts, started to occupy the most prestigious place in the white-and-white uniform.
The company was contacted by the iGaming Brazil portal. Matheus Bicalho (Commercial Director of EstrelaBet) stated that EstrelaBet will not yet position itself, “given that Botafogo itself has not yet positioned itself”.
The team from Rio de Janeiro has not officially announced whether it intends to finish or continue with the bookmaker. However, it is worth mentioning, these disruptions will not be made now. EstrelaBet, and the other sponsors will continue stamping the brands on Botafogo’s uniform until the definitive contract for the sale of SAF is signed.
