Federal Police and Sportradar sign agreement to protect sporting integrity in Brazil

A historic partnership to strengthen and protect Brazil’s sports integrity landscape was formed between the Federal Police and Sportradar, a global provider of sports integrity solutions and partner of more than 100 sports federations and leagues. Sportradar Integrity Services is part of Sportradar, a world leader in creating immersive experiences for sports fans.

The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding whereby Sportradar Integrity Services, which has monitored the global betting markets for over 16 years, will support the Federal Police, sharing relevant information for combating corruption in sport, exchanging experiences to establish the best practices for dealing with investigations of fraud, manipulation of results and combating corruption in sports and betting.

Match-fixing is a serious and ever-evolving threat to the integrity of sports competitions worldwide, with evidence of large groups of criminals trying to manipulate the results of sporting events and betting; payment of bribes and money laundering associated with the high volumes of resources involved.

Sportradar expands partnership with international inspection organizations.

The strategic agreement with the country’s Federal Police further expands Sportradar’s cooperation with police and law enforcement agencies, which include Europol, the Spanish Civil Guard and the Bulgarian, Austrian and French Police, among others.

The director general of the Federal Police, Paulo Gustavo Maiurino, said: “Corruption in sports is an issue that has drawn the attention of the international community, of which Brazil is also a part”.

And he added: “This is due to the possibility of infiltration of criminal organizations in this sector, with the manipulation of sporting events, betting, doping, payment of bribes and money laundering associated with the high volumes of resources involved.”

“Given this reality, the signing of this agreement between the Federal Police and Sportradar will allow a better targeting of criminal investigations related to such crimes in Brazil, especially those that require international coordination and cooperation”, he concluded.

Andreas Krannich, Managing Director of Sportradar Integrity Services, said: “Over the years, we have supported numerous state authorities, government institutions, national platforms and sports federations, and these collaborations have shown how effective a joint effort can be in fighting the parties.”

Krannich concluded: “This has been demonstrated in the 489 sports sanctions and the 50 criminal sanctions our work has contributed to so far. Brazilian sport is safer with this cooperation, and we are ready to help the Federal Police to help fulfill our role of supporting the integrity of all Brazilian sport.”
