Unibet joins Swedish Football League to promote responsible gaming

Unibet and Swedish Elite Football (SEF – Swedish Professional Football League) have announced a partnership whereby 1,000 active professional players and coaches will deliver online training courses on responsible gaming.

Unibet, part of the Kindred Group, is SEF’s main partner, with training taking place as part of the sponsorship agreement for the two Swedish divisions, Allsvenskan and Superettan. Activity will begin after the end of the current season, with each club’s Integrity section ensuring that training takes place. All 32 men’s football clubs from the Allsvenskan and Superettan leagues will participate.

“During our partnership with the Swedish Football League, we have made a lot of efforts to combat match-fixing and harmful play. This training is just one example of the work we do with SEF and we will continue our great efforts throughout the contract period,” said Philip Lagström, Country Manager at Unibet Sweden.

Lagström added: “For us, it is very important to share and contribute our knowledge through this sponsorship. Unibet wants a sustainable gaming industry and our ambition is to zero revenue from harmful games by 2023”.

Unibet held a course for players and coaches at the beginning of the year

This awareness-raising activity continues the course on combating the manipulation of results held earlier this year. It is part of Kindred’s sustainability strategy and is an important element in its partnership with SEF.

Anders Wikström, Integrity Officer of the Swedish Football League, commented: “For some individuals, in society as well as in the sporting environment, gambling can unfortunately become a problem. Together with our partner Unibet, we want to take responsibility and offer an additional responsible gaming tool through this training.”

Wikström concluded: “The online lessons contain a self-assessment where by answering certain questions you get an insight into your current behavior in the game. Something that we see as a very important measure. The training also contains contact information for those who feel they might be in a harmful situation, which gives us an assurance.”
