A Playtech survey shows that Brazilians want more transparency and guidance from bookmakers

A new Latin American survey by Playtech, a provider of online games and sports betting software, has pointed out what steps Brazilians want gaming operators to take to promote more responsible gambling.

Promoted in partnership with the global research platform Toluna Insights, the Playtech study surveyed more than 2,000 people in four Latin American countries – Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia – in order to raise concerns and barriers for potential players in the region.

When asked what actions bookmakers should take to encourage responsible gaming, 61% of Brazilians interviewed asked for transparent information related to gambling issues to be included on gaming sites. About 56% said companies should show clear information about financial gains and losses, as well as the time spent.

While behavioral analysis of gamblers’ betting patterns to spot people with troublesome behavior in early stages was cited by 54%. Only 13% of Brazilians interviewed said that bookmakers do not need to do anything because it is not their responsibility.

51% of Brazilians interviewed believe that regulation would generate better protection for players

For more than half of respondents in Brazil (51%), online gambling would be less harmful if stricter regulations and measures were taken, as they would represent better protection for players.

Approximately 28% of Brazilians believe that regulation would drive more people to gamble, but it would also result in more forms of protection for players. In contrast, 80% of Brazilians understand that stricter betting rules would result in more people playing and therefore would be more harmful.

“The data from this survey sheds light on perceptions of the Latin American gambling industry, as well as highlights ways in which it can improve. It’s no accident that each of the four countries surveyed had similar results, and as the industry in these regions matures, these insights should not be ignored,” said Francesco Rodano, Policy Director at Playtech.

Rodano continued: “Greater transparency around betting can help reduce behaviors identified as problematic among respondents. For this reason, Playtech is determined to help resolve these issues by providing a higher level of player engagement and more data analysis tools and experience to ensure safer gambling and support and protect all online customers, but especially those who demonstrate greater vulnerability or high patterns of risk behavior.”
