DAZN Names Ian Turnbull EVP of Sportsbook and Games

Subscription sports streaming service DAZN has named former Entain executive Ian Turnbull as its new EVP of sports betting and gaming as the company looks to increase its involvement in the industry.

Turnbull’s career in the betting market includes his role as Director of Services at Microgaming and Head of B2B at Entain – before his redesign to his current corporate identity, then known as GVC Holdings – where he worked on the creation of the BetMGM brand with focus on USA in cooperation with MGM Resorts.

The group explained that the experience of their new hire “will help DAZN expand our offerings around the world, giving sports fans the best end-to-end experience on one platform.”

Turnbull joins former Entain employee Shay Segev, who served as CEO of operator FTSE100, as part of DAZN’s senior management team. Segev left his role at operator Ladbrokes and Coral in January of this year to join the OTT platform as its ‘Deputy Chief Executive’.

To further strengthen its ties with the sports betting industry, DAZN also detailed plans to hire a new product VP for its betting division.

The job description on the DAZN website read: “DAZN has changed the way the world consumes sports over the past five years and we are now embarking on an exciting new stage of our journey.”

“As our Vice President of Product, your aim will be to capitalize on the unique opportunity that DAZN now has: to establish a truly world-class betting proposition alongside world-class sports rights in some of the most exciting markets in the world.”

DAZN’s growing involvement with the sports betting industry is based on its strong position in the media and broadcast space, where the company maintains an extensive portfolio of boxing matches.

Its coverage currently includes a series of high profile fights through its deal with Matchroom Boxing signed earlier this year, while the company has also expressed interest in acquiring BT Sport and Premier League rights.
