Secap/ME will promote a webinar to debate the Brazilian sports betting market

The Ministry of Economy’s Secretariat for Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery (Secap) will organize this Friday, 23, between 10:30 and 12:00, the webinar ‘Sports betting, a great opportunity for the country’ with the participation of Ludovico Calvi, President of Global Lottery Monitoring System (GLMS), Ricardo Magri, Commercial Director of Eightroom, and moderation by the Area Secretary, Gustavo Guimarães.

The seminar will be held on the Microsoft Teams platform and those interested can already register here. It’s an excellent time for discussion after the presidential sanction of Law 14.183/2021 last week from the national fixed-quote sports betting market.

This law will modify the taxation and distribution of betting collection, in physical and virtual channels. Secap’s perspective is that this new measure will allow the country to rely on the best practices and lead to an increase in tax collection for the public coffers by unlocking a very promising segment.

The specialists will address the expectations that the national market generates across the planet and the large number of sports betting companies that are establishing themselves in Brazil with investments, sponsorships and other brand actions that show the enormous interest there is in this rapidly growing sector.

Event to reveal progress of sports betting regulation in Brazil

The webinar will also serve to reveal the progress of the regulatory process for sports betting by the secretary of Evaluation, Planning, Energy and Lottery. The trend is for this process to be completed by the end of 2021 and be implemented early next year.

Therefore, this modification by Congress is in line with what Secap is debating with the market, regulators from around the world and probable investors, because, even with the 2018 law releasing the modality in the national territory, taxation was still below the best international practices.
