The National Hockey League (NHL) partnered with the American Gaming Association (AGA) for a public service campaign called ‘Have A Game Plan: Bet Responsibly’ to promote the responsible game.
The action focuses on the basic principles of responsible sports betting, such as setting a betting budget, maintaining social gambling activities and betting with trusted providers. The NHL is the second league to join the campaign, after NASCAR.
According to a statement, the NHL aims to encourage responsible betting across multiple platforms, including shared video card images, public address announcements and hockey-specific animations and marketing. The league will also provide exclusive assets for each club.
“The fan experience remains one of our top priorities, as more and more hockey fans have the opportunity to bet legally and responsibly in their home states,” said NHL business director Keith Wachtel.
He added: “Ensuring that our passionate fans know how to participate in this exciting new opportunity is important. And, we are excited to work with AGA to share the responsibility for this dignified awareness action ”.
AGA President and CEO Bill Miller stressed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, leagues are becoming more open to exploring sports betting as a way to engage fans.
“Educating customers on how to engage in this activity responsibly is critical to the success of the sports betting opportunity, as it continues to expand across the country,” concluded Miller.
