BetPlay Becomes Sponsor of Colombia's Major Women's Football League

The Major Division of Professional Football in Colombia (Dimayor) chose Betplay as the new sponsor of the Liga Femenina, the main women’s football competition in the country. The contract, which was made official on October 16, defined that the new name of the tournament will be “Liga Femenina BetPlay” until 2023.

Fernando Jaramillo, the president of Dimayor, declared that the sponsorship agreements, as well as the funds provided by the Colombian government, were fundamental for the maintenance of the female competition this year.

“[Thanks to] our effort and that of our sponsor, we can have a women’s league. We will be able to [enjoy] not only their football, because in this country [women’s football] goes beyond sport. We are showing that Colombian women have power and that they represent many values, ”said Jaramillo.

According to SBC Notícias, Betplay is collaborating with other leagues, in addition to the Colombian Women’s Championship. Today, the betting company also “lends” its name to the BetPlay League, BetPlay Cup and Torneo BetPlay.

Betplay support may generate expansion of women’s competition

The president of the maximum football entity in Colombia also revealed that he plans to extend the women’s championship. Nowadays, the competition is played over 60 days.

“We have sponsors interested in this sport like BetPlay, and we have to look for many more. The goal is to have a longer tournament, with more games and at the same level as the men’s football leagues, ”he said.

Jaramillo added: “in the future, we have to create a sustainable system. The national government will remain committed and next year we will receive funds from FIFA ”.

In the current system, the Liga Femenina has 13 teams distributed in three keys. Even though the values for the prizes for the first places have not been revealed, Dimayor anticipated that the final will be held on December 13th.
