Betfred has extended its sponsorship of the World Snooker Championship until at least 2022. Therefore, the operator and WST, the commercial entity of professional snooker events, renewed their partnership on the last day of the 2020 tournament and extended the agreement that Betfred has held since 2009.
In addition, the last edition of the main tournament was won by Ronnie O’Sullivan. He became champion of the competition for the sixth time after beating Kyren Wlson 18-8 at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield, England, in front of about 300 spectators.
Betfred co-founder and CEO Fred Done said: “I am delighted to extend my association with the World Snooker Championship. And, I would like to take this opportunity to thank WST, Crucible, BBC, Eurosport and especially the players for embracing this event in such challenging times ”.
It is worth noting that Betfred also donated 25 thousand euros to Jessie May Children’s Hospice at Home, the official charity of the WST.
Before the tournament, the operator promised 200 euros for each “century”. Rounding up the total to £ 25,000 if 80 of those plays were made over the course of the competition.
Even though the final count was 79 after O’Sullivan’s performance in the final, Befred decided to count another “century” to make the donation possible to a child health institution.
WST President Barry Hearn said, “This is an incredible gesture from Betfred. And, I know how much this will mean for Jessie May’s team at a time when they were forced to reduce their fundraising activity. All our gratitude to our partner ”.
