In episode 22 of the Brazilian Lounge podcast, Fellipe Fraga, Business Director at EstrelaBet, shared his experiences and insights about the company’s growth and the challenges faced in the current context of regulation in the sports betting sector in Brazil.
During the interview, he reflected on his career in the market, highlighting how his training in law and his experience in various areas of law, including public, electoral and international law, led him to become a leader in the sports betting sector.
When talking about the history of EstrelaBet, Fraga mentioned the company’s name change, which was initially “Ken You Bet”, to “EstrelaBet”, aiming for a more Brazilian identity and a stronger brand. He highlighted that the choice of name was inspired by the association with sport and the star as a symbol of victory.
Sponsorships for football clubs
The executive also expressed his concern with the idea of a link between football clubs and their own betting houses, citing Flabet as an example. He emphasized the importance of integrity and transparency in sports betting operations, highlighting that “it’s not enough to be honest, you have to appear honest.”
Furthermore, Fellipe discussed the importance of a strategic approach to stand out in a competitive market. In this context, he emphasized that EstrelaBet seeks to offer its customers a high-quality and safe entertainment experience.
He then cited the need to support small initiatives and communities. To illustrate this point, he highlighted that the bookmaker sponsors the Brazilian futsal team. Furthermore, the company renovated a court in a community in Rio de Janeiro, demonstrating its commitment to giving back to society some of what is used for people’s entertainment.
Finally, with regard to advertising, Fellipe expressed his opinion on the time restrictions for broadcasting sports betting advertising. He argued that such a restriction is not necessary, pointing out that both television and the internet are valuable means of communication. According to him, these channels can be used effectively to bring citizens together and offer reliable information.
