YouTube has announced that it will be taking strict measures starting March 19, 2025. These measures aim to block content related to unauthorized online gambling websites.
Furthermore, this initiative comes in response to complaints from the Ministry of Sports. The department identified deceptive practices by influencers, who promote bets on platforms considered illegal, with promises of quick profits.
In order to protect younger users in particular, YouTube will prohibit the publication of links and images related to unauthorized betting websites. The platform will also ban any verbal mention of these services.
Under the new policy: “Content that promises guaranteed returns may be removed, regardless of whether the online gambling site or app has been approved by Google.”
Channels and accounts that promoted illegal betting in Brazil
The National Secretariat for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sport (Snaede) played a crucial role in identifying more than 53 accounts and 25 channels on YouTube that promoted illegal betting.
These online platforms attracted more than 100,000 viewers per broadcast, as highlighted by Secretary Giovanni Rocco.
“In light of these complaints, the Ministry of Sports considers the measure a victory, representing progress in protecting the most vulnerable families, who end up being deceived by scammers disguised as digital influencers.”
With the new guidelines, videos about online casinos will have age restrictions, so only logged in users over 18 years of age will be able to access them.
Furthermore, any betting promotion must be linked to websites officially authorized by the Brazilian government. Secretary Giovanni Rocco stated that the government archives these websites under the “.bet.br” domain.
This initiative reflects the Ministry of Sports’ commitment to ensuring the integrity of sports betting, and also aims to protect bettors, especially younger ones, against misleading and harmful practices. You can check out the platform’s new rules by clicking here.
