The General Directorate of Gaming Regulation (DGOJ) has released financial figures for Spain‘s online gaming market for the second quarter of 2024.
In total, Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) reached €346.3 million (US$386.5 million) during the period, representing a 10.79% increase compared to the previous year.
Casino with the highest revenue in Spain
Looking at individual segments, betting, bingo and casino saw growth, while poker saw a decline and contests saw no activity during the second quarter.
The casino had the highest participation, with 49.57%, and online betting was not far behind, with 42%. However, poker only had 7.38% and bingo had 1.04% of the market.
In relation to the real numbers in Spain, bets increased by 9.13% compared to the same period last year, to 145.48 million euros. Casinos rose 14.57%, to 171.69 million euros and bingo was 1.87% higher than in the second quarter of 2023, with 3.61 million euros. The poker segment decreased by 0.76% to €25.56 million.
Thus, total turnover was valued at 8.26 billion euros during the quarter, an increase of 7.76% compared to the same period last year. Casinos represent the majority of this value, with 4.99 billion euros.
But the betting segment had the biggest growth, with 10.73%, being valued at 2.55 billion euros.
Profit increases, but new players decrease
Analyzing gaming accounts and the average monthly number of bettors in Spain, this number continued to grow. Active accounts increased by 23.65% to 1,401,634, as did active players which rose by 22.11% to 942,805.
New accounts grew 46.57% to 150,677. However, when it comes to new bettors, that number fell by 5.15% to 47,826.
Recently, the Swedish Gaming Authority, Spelinspektionen, also released financial figures for the second quarter of 2024. According to the entity, there has been a general growth in the gaming market in Sweden.
