Sportradar, a global leader in sports technology, promoted last Thursday (05), an integrity workshop for the professional men’s team of Clube Atlético Mineiro, in Cidade do Galo, in Belo Horizonte. The objective of the initiative is to protect Brazilian football against match manipulation. Thus, players and the coaching staff participated to learn how to identify and avoid this type of practice that is harmful to the sport.
nformation is the best weapon
Felippe Marchetti, Integrity Partnerships Manager at Sportradar in Brazil, highlighted the importance of being aware of the problem: “The methods for manipulating results are increasingly sophisticated. Therefore, it is essential that everyone involved in sport is prepared to recognize and denounce this practice.”
Responsible for the company’s integrity training in the country, Felippe commented: “Information is one of the most powerful tools we have to combat this crime. Furthermore, it was very gratifying to see the interest of Atlético players during the presentation. Education and awareness are crucial so that together we can tackle this problem and protect football.”
During the workshop, players received information about real cases that illustrate the risks and consequences of match-fixing. The company also explains how it uses advanced technologies and detailed analyzes to monitor sports competitions.
“It is very important that the club works with athletes to raise awareness of this issue. Periodically, we show the risks and ways of approaching them, in order to double your attention. We also make our legal department available to work together with the football department, in order to take every precaution and prevent us from being harmed”, says Football director Victor Bagy.
Sportradar workshop goes to all regions of Brazil
“We encourage all players to report any type of harassment, as only then will we be able to fight to eradicate this harmful and damaging practice from football, both for the athlete and for the institution”, adds Victor.
This workshop is part of a series of training sessions that Sportradar carries out in clubs and federations in Brazil and around the world. In addition to Galo, Palmeiras, Náutico, Sport and Vitória, as well as the Minas Gerais Football Federation and the Northeast federations have already participated in education and prevention initiatives.
