Sportradar‘s artificial intelligence (AI) technology, based on extensive data simulations, predicts that Kansas City is the leading candidate to win the professional football championship, i.e. the NFL, on February 9, 2025.
According to the data, Kansas City could reach a historic milestone, becoming the first team to win a “threepeat” (three-peat) in the NFL.
What did Sportradar’s AI model for the NFL look like?
Sportradar ran 50,000 simulations of the regular season, which includes 18 weeks and 272 games. In 7,105 of these simulations, Kansas City emerged as the winner, indicating a 14.2% chance.
Other teams with a high probability of winning include San Francisco, at 12.6%, and Baltimore, at 8.0%. Sportradar’s AI model generates these estimates by processing vast amounts of historical NFL data and team probabilities to win the Super Bowl.
Sportradar uses a vast network of 900 sports betting operators to feed its AI algorithm with tens of thousands of data points. The system uses this information to analyze the strength of the teams and the expected score in each game.
Thus, the model simulates the season, game by game, adjusting statistics week by week. With this, the AI can predict future scenarios, both for the regular season and the playoffs.
Highlighted simulations for the 2024-25 season
- First team with 10 wins: Teams that reach ten wins have a 95.3% chance of reaching the playoffs. Sportradar’s AI indicates that Kansas City (15.1%) is the team most likely to reach that mark first, followed by San Francisco (10.1%), Baltimore (7.7%), Detroit (6.4%). %) and Cincinnati (6.3%).
- Strongest Divisions: The AI also ranked divisions according to their win percentage against teams outside their divisions. The strongest are American North (57.9%), National North (55.2%), American West (53.8%) and National West (52.2%). These divisions have a greater chance of securing advantageous positions in the playoffs.
- Possible first title: Among the 12 teams that have never won a professional championship, Detroit leads with a 6.6% chance of winning their first title. Cincinnati (6.0%), Buffalo (5.0%), Houston (4.9%) and Atlanta (2.6%) also appear as candidates.
- Most likely matchups in the league: Kansas City and San Francisco have the highest chance of facing each other in the league, at 5.4%.
