The National Council of Games of Chance of Colombia (Coljuegos) and the National Health Superintendence announced severe measures to further strengthen the protection of the population against the damage caused by excessive gambling.

Therefore, the key point for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is the “strengthening surveillance of the operation of territorial games”.

Furthermore, the action will allow for better collaboration for the exchange of information and technical knowledge, providing tools for surveillance and control of the lottery, as well as stricter control for Raspa&Listo game providers.

Cooperation to improve oversight in Colombia’s gaming sector

Luis Carlos Leal, Health Superintendent, commented: “After several days of work, today we signed an agreement to combat corruption.

“We will improve collections to protect the fundamental resource for the health of Colombians. Therefore, it is important to coordinate efforts within the National Government to advance health protection in the country,” he added.

Thus, Coljuegos contributed a total of COP 147.04 billion (£28 million) to the public health sector. The money came from the collection of lotteries and Raspa&Listo games in the first quarter of 2024.

In other words, this represents an increase of 8% compared to the same period last year.

Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos, added: “This significant increase in transferred resources is due to joint work.”

“The operators and the National Council of Lucky Games working together. We are offering guarantees to strengthen the sector in the territories and increase money for health”, he concluded.
