Spelinspektionen, the Swedish gambling authority, has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding with the United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC). Thus, the two nations continue to share betting information between the competent authorities.
The renewal was agreed at the Spelinspektionen industry seminar on March 5 at Vasateatern in Stockholm. It was signed by Sarah Gardner, Deputy Executive Director of the UKGC and Camilla Rosenberg, General Director of Spelinspektionen.
Gaming agreement renews ties between the two nations
The renewal builds on the initial agreement between the two regulators in November 2019.
“The gambling market is global and it is important to have good relationships to cooperate with other gaming authorities,” commented Rosenberg.
“Although our markets are different, we have many common areas where we can learn from each other and exchange experiences. So, by working together, we can achieve our common goals of a healthy and safe gambling market.”
Thus, Spelinspektionen also has memorandums of understanding with gambling regulators with other countries such as: the Netherlands, Malta and Gibraltar.
UK Gambling Commission statement
In a post on LinkedIn, the UK Gambling Commission stated: “The MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) – our second this year after Norway in February – will strengthen ties between our two jurisdictions.
Furthermore, it will facilitate greater sharing and promotion of information aimed at improving our respective regulatory duties and addressing common challenges, such as the illegal online market.
Therefore, our work with international partners is vital to ensure mutual interests that aim to protect consumers.
Because this is an increasingly global market and we have to face the challenges in a way that reinforces our commitment to making games safer, fairer and free from crime.”
