Global gaming platform Football.com has hired renowned football coach José Mourinho as the company’s global ambassador.
Mourinho first partnered with Football.com as a brand ambassador in August, producing exclusive monthly articles for media, sports and betting outlets, with his involvement in marketing now included in the deal.
The signing was celebrated with a new advertisement where Mourinho takes the viewer through the history of football, revisiting all his greatest achievements in European football to the classic chords of violin music.
With the words: “I am relentless. I am ambition. I am a winner. I am José Mourinho. I am Football.com”, the Special One combines his very special and successful career with the football excitement that Football.com offers through its gaming, betting and content platform.
The main ad is a minute and a half in total, but there is also an adapted TV version that is 30 seconds long and is scheduled to air soon in Africa on some of the continent’s most prominent TV platforms and channels.
“Filmed in the heart of London, the ad is distinguished not only by its emotional depth, but also by its technological innovation,” said Football.com.
Greg Parsons, vice president of business development at Football.com, added: “Just as Mourinho delighted sports fans during his illustrious career, Football.com shares the same principles for sparking a passion for sport in our users.
“This is fundamentally why the partnership with Mourinho resonates with Football.com, as we look to push the boundaries of user engagement and entertainment at the intersection of sport and innovative technology.”
Some of Mourinho’s greatest achievements include winning the UEFA Champions League with Porto, Chelsea‘s first league title in 50 years, and winning the Spanish battle of the titans with Real Madrid against Guardiola’s Barcelona.
All this and much more is mentioned in the new advert, in which Elias Gallego, VP of Marketing at Football.com, commented: “Our aim was to draw parallels between Mourinho’s winning character and Football.com’s pioneering vision, unwavering commitment with technology, and dedication to providing the best user experience.”
José Mourinho is the new Football.com ambassador
As part of the agreement, Mourinho will write one article per month for the Football.com platform where he reveals exclusive details about his role as a football coach.
Known around the world, José Mourinho became popular in the United Kingdom with the nickname The Special One after calling himself that way in his first interview as Chelsea coach.
He later said in an interview with the media that he had only said that he was special, like others, but not the only one.
In Italy it was known as Lo Speciale; in Spain, as El Especial.
Mourinho has won 26 titles, making him one of the most successful managers of all time.
He was named Portuguese Coach of the 21st Century by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) in 2015, and holds the status of being the first coach to have spent billions of euros on transfers. In 2021, he was named Coach of the 21st Century (2001–2020) by the IFFHS.
