On December 25, 2022, Michael Clark was bored at his home, located in the city of Newcastle (England). So, he decided to join an online gambling site. The Englishman started placing his bets with just 1.40 pounds (about R$ 8.70).

After 30 minutes of betting on the platform, Clark celebrated by winning over £5,000. However, the prize pool was much bigger! In fact, the 32-year-old man won an amount in the millions, more precisely 5.4 million pounds (or R$ 33.5 million in current exchange rates).

“At first we thought it must have been a mistake, and then we started hugging each other when we realized it was real,” said the Englishman, who is engaged to Sherelle Pooley, with whom he has two daughters, according to a report by “Metro”.

“I just couldn’t stop crying, and there’s no way I was going to sleep that night having won such a huge amount of money. Now we can easily get married and buy our house in the countryside.”

With the millionaire amount in his bank account, the Englishman decided to leave his job at a mental health clinic. “My boss understood when I explained that I would have to leave with all this going on,” he declared.

According to an article in Extra, the gambler already has some goals to fulfill with the money obtained from betting: buying a new car, as soon as he gets his driver’s license, and taking a honeymoon trip to the Caribbean.

Betting on Mega Millions can result in a billionaire prize

The largest North American Mega Millions lottery did not have, for the 25th time in a row, any winner – the prize that was at US$ 1.1 billion accumulated at US$ 1.35 billion, exceeding R$ 7 billion.

The chance of winning the prize is 1 in 302.6 million. To give you an idea, it is the same chance of a person being selected in more than six thousand crowded “Mineirão” stadiums. The result will be announced this Friday, January 13.
