Playtech publishes study on the gambling market in Latin America

A provider of software for online gaming and sports betting, Playtech has published an e-book focusing on the South American gaming industry, exploring key issues and providing expert insights related to responsible gaming in the region. The company’s commitment to safety was the main driver behind the publication, which includes the results of a study of more than 2,000 people from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Colombia.

After all, the company wants to help boost confidence in regulation and pinpoint the risk factors that pose the biggest threat to player safety. All geared towards player protection and a better understanding of the steps that technology providers and operators can take to promote responsible gaming. Responsible business practices are critical and the Playtech Responsible Gaming Report explains how they not only protect operators’ licenses, but also improve customer trust for long-term success.

“At Playtech, we create technology that changes the way operators deliver gaming and betting experiences. We believe that gaming can be an important and enjoyable part of the leisure industry and, more importantly, society. We also believe that to ensure that platforms benefit as stakeholders, it is essential for the industry to leverage the technology and tools available to put protection and trust at the heart of any customer experience,” said Mor Weizer, CEO of Playtech. .

The primary purpose of Playtech’s research – carried out in partnership with global research platform Toluna Insights – was to identify key concerns and barriers for potential players in the region. Including all aspects of the issue, the report examines current attitudes towards gambling, user woes, perceptions of regulation and what is expected of operators. Some of the results are essential for those operating in the gaming industry in Latin America, already estimated at $10 billion in revenue.

Research reveals details of the South American player’s behavior

For example, around 47% of respondents claimed that they had not gambled in the last six months, with the main reason being lack of interest (33%), uncertainty about how to do it safely (24%) and fear of getting hooked. (14%). More than three in four respondents (76%) reported that stricter responsible gaming regulations and guidelines would result in better player protection. That said, only 13% of consumers said they do not trust online gaming companies – although Argentina (17%), a country where there is a roadmap for the regulation and administration of online games, stands out in this regard.

When asked what can make South Americans feel confident about betting online, 45% of respondents said more information and tools to protect themselves, while 44% said more information about companies. These points are related to another question in the report, asking what companies would need to do to promote responsible gaming. More than half selected that they should provide clear information on their websites to users about gambling issues and provide players with clear information about money and time spent on gambling.

“It is no coincidence that each of the four countries analyzed during the survey showed similar results. As the industry in these regions matures, these insights should not be ignored. That’s why we’re making the Playtech Responsible Gaming Report freely available to anyone in Latin America who might be interested in the sector and how to work together to improve it for everyone,” said Francesco Rodano, Policy Director at Playtech.

“Greater transparency around betting can help reduce behaviors identified as problematic among respondents. For that reason, Playtech is determined to help address these concerns by providing a higher level of player engagement, more data analysis tools, and our 23 years of industry experience.”
