Genius Sports joined the general exodus of the gambling industry from Russia in a statement that also announced its support for the Ukrainian people, including the slogan “Stand with Ukraine”.

Following similar moves by other brands, the sports data company has decided to cease all commercial operations in Russia and Belarus, following the invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

“Genius Sports confirms that as a result of the events in Ukraine, we are ceasing all commercial operations in Russia and Belarus,” the company said.

“At all times, our priority remains ensuring the safety and well-being of our colleagues, their families and loved ones in the region. Our thoughts are with the Ukrainian people.”

Genius’ decision to stop its operations in Russia and Belarus is a step many companies have already taken.

Last week, several operators announced their intention to suspend betting on sporting events in both regions, including LeoVegas.

LeoVegas CEO Gustaf Hagman commented in a LinkedIn post: “Following the invasion of Ukraine, the LeoVegas Group has decided to suspend all betting on Russian and Belarusian sporting events.”

Likewise, PointsBet, DraftKings and FanDuel, declare the withdrawal of their sports betting events in both Russia and Belarus, a move that is likely to affect several major competitions, including the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

In addition to these big brand movements, several organizations also collaborated on a campaign entitled as ‘GoFundMe’, created by the Gaming Industry for Ukraine.

This campaign aims to raise £250,000 (US$333,000) for the Choose Love’s Ukraine Crisis fundraiser, and has so far raised £183,312 from 188 donations.
