Gambling and betting revenue for the third quarter of 2021 decreased by 14.9% compared to the second quarter of the year, but increased by 38.5% compared to the third quarter of 2020.

At 64.8 million euros, casino games accounted for the majority of the quarterly total, a 55.3% improvement compared to the same period last year. Players wagered €1.78 billion on casino games, 50.8% more than in 2020.

Slot machines represented 77.5% of the total, followed by roulette with 9.8%. Blackjack contributed 5.2%, and 3.8% came from French roulette. Cash poker represented 2.5%, while tournaments represented 0.9%.

Revenue from online sports betting, in turn, reached 49.3 million euros, an increase of 16.0% over the previous year.

Players bet €296.9 million on sports, up 33.2% from the previous year. Football was the most popular sport during the three months, representing 82.1% of the total betting volume.

The Portuguese Premier League and UEFA Champions League accounted for 10.1% of total sports betting, while tennis accounted for 13.2% of total third-quarter betting.

The gaming fee totaled 40.0 million euros, an increase of 41.3% over the same period last year.

More gaming and betting licenses were issued this third quarter

The SRIJ also revealed that 26 new online gaming licenses were issued throughout the third quarter. In total, 15 sports betting licenses were issued while casino licenses constituted the remaining 11.

New player registrations also increased, with 162,300 registrations in the third quarter, a 3.5% increase.

Throughout the third quarter, 39.9% of players bet on sports, while 27.5% of players bet on casino games. The remaining 32.6% bet on both simultaneously. A total of 651,000 players placed bets in the third quarter overall.
