Malta-Gaming-Authority-Revokes-Smart-Operations License

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) canceled Smart Operations’ B2C gaming license after the authority found the company had violated Malta’s gaming regulations.

As of April 30, the cancellation was imposed after the company had violated regulation 9; the authority highlighted three areas where it did not meet regulatory standards.

According to the regulatory body, Smart Operations did not comply with one or more obligations; it also failed to meet its financial commitments to the authority and did not pay all amounts due in a timely manner.

Rule 10 allows MGA to cancel any licenses if a company violates rule 9; therefore, the authority was free to proceed with its decision.

Smart Operations cannot now perform any gaming operations, register new players or accept new customer deposits as it previously could under its MGA license.

However, the company is still required to retain and provide all registered players with access to their accounts; the authority further instructed the operator to refund any necessary amounts to its players.

Just last month, the Authority announced that it could cancel the authorization given to Magic Services. MGA gave Magic Services 20 days to defend why its license should not be withdrawn.

Magic Services was accused of violating rule 3 of the Gambling License Fee Regulation and received the warning under rule 12 of the Gambling Compliance and Law Enforcement Regulation.

In February, the Malta Gaming Authority announced that it had revoked seven licenses in the first half of 2020.
