Gisele Bündchen becomes a consultant for environmental and social causes at DraftKings

DraftKings has announced supermodel Gisele Bündchen as the betting company’s new special advisor on environmental, social and governance issues. Gisele, an environmental activist and philanthropist, is married to Tom Brady, seven times champion of the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl.

In its first action with the Brazilian, DraftKings set the goal of planting 1 million trees by Earth Day 2022. The platform will encourage players to directly support the effort, including in daily charity fantasy sports contests.

Working together with the Arbor Day Foundation, DraftKings committed to planting the first 100,000 trees in North American states, such as California, Florida, Michigan, Oregon, Vermont and Virginia.

DraftKings recently presented its environmental, social and governance objectives in a report for 2020, covering the fight against global climate change, in alignment with the UN’s sustainable development goals.

“I look forward to working with the DraftKings board to find ways to cause the most positive impacts through meaningful social and environmental initiatives. It is very important that successful companies promote the changes needed to really make a difference on a global level, ”said Gisele in a statement.

The partnership between DraftKings and Gisele Bündchen comes at a time when it intends to expand its production of original content. Last week, the company announced that it had hired Verizon veteran Brian Angiolet as its first media director.

The president / CEO of DraftKings, Jason Robins, described the Brazilian as a “global icon”. “I believe that the unique global perspective that Gisele brings to me and to the council will be indispensable and, as evidenced by our Earth Day campaign, the impact of her contribution will be immediate and far-reaching”.

Gisele Bündchen has been featured on more than 1,200 magazine covers worldwide and has been on the catwalks in around 500 fashion shows. She is a supporter of several environmental and social projects, including the Água Limpa Project, which implements sustainable environmental management systems for water resources in her hometown.

In 2020, it launched the Viva a Vida initiative, which raised funds for the planting of more than 260 thousand trees along the Xingu and Araguaia rivers, in the Amazon rainforest in Brazilian territory. Gisele has also served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Environmental Program since 2009.
