Google announces new feature to restrict gambling and betting ads

Soon, Google will add a new feature to its advertising settings that will allow users to choose to reduce advertising for companies related to the gaming industry and sports betting while using its services.

The technology company said it was including the engine after receiving feedback from users who said they would prefer to limit ads to certain “sensitive” topics. In addition to gambling-related ads, users can also limit the number of liquor advertisements they have access to.

“Mute this ad”, another Google feature, allows a user to choose not to see a specific ad again. However, this new tool will block ads in a certain category. The decision is reversible, so users can release the ad if they change their mind.

In an official statement, Google stressed that the new feature “is a step further, placing the choice in the hands of the user and allowing him to further control his advertising experience”.

The solution will be rolled out gradually around the world. According to Google’s forecast, the tool will be presented first in the United States, but the company expects to launch globally on Google Ads and YouTube early next year.

“We will continue to improve our controls. And, as our products and people’s expectations evolve, the same will happen with the resource that we provide to personalize the advertising experiences ”, stated in the official note.

Google tool can help specific groups

The new tool launched by Google will be especially useful for certain groups of vulnerable people or people with some kind of problem related to games and sports betting.

In addition, this solution also tends to be important so that parents and guardians can block the exposure of minors to this type of content while they are connected.
