Inspired celebrates the success of the Melbourne Cup virtual versionversion

Three-time Melbourne Cup winner, Makybe Diva, was the champion of the inaugural Lexus Melbourne The Race of Dreams, created by Inspired Entertainment for the Victoria Racing Club (VRC). The virtual race brought together 24 former champions and was televised live across Australia, ahead of the Melbourne Cup 2020.

To celebrate 160 years of Australia’s most important race, Inspired produced an ultra-realistic computer-simulated representation of the competitions that took the legendary Melbourne Cup winners face to face and used a complex algorithm to decide the actual outcome of the race.

“Melbourne Cup champions, such as Phar Lap, Carbine, Makybe Diva, Saintly and Might and Power, caught the attention of the public, won our hearts and became legends in their own right. It is always inspiring to remember and celebrate these monumental achievements, ”said Amanda Elliott, president of VRC.

Elliott added: “In my life, I have witnessed some incredible victories, but none has been more impressive than the third achievement for Makybe Diva in 2005. Creating a virtual race to compare recent winners with those of the past is fascinating. This generated a solid and fun debate “.

Inspired made virtual versions with millions of viewers

As a pioneer of virtual sports, Inspired has been recreating the action of the most popular sports in the world for more than a decade. The company created virtual versions of Cox Plate races in Australia, Kentucky Derby in the US and Grand National in the UK.

All of these events were broadcast on national television with millions of viewers, proving that virtual sports are realistic enough to captivate the large sports-hungry audience.

“Our goal was to make the race look real and exciting to all Australians who watch it on television,” said Steve Roger, Commercial Director of Virtual Sports at Inspired.

He added: “We would like to thank VRC and its media partners for giving us the opportunity to showcase our award-winning virtual sports product and be part of the history of racing in Australia.”
