Colombia’s gaming sector contributed over $225 million to healthcare

The president of the Colombian Gaming Companies Administration (Coljuegos), Marco Emilio Hincapié, announced that the Colombian gaming sector transferred COP$883.9 billion (local currency), equivalent to 225 million dollars, to the health system in the first half of 2025. The announcement was made during the National Congress of Lotteries and Distributors.

Of the total amount, COP $566.5 billion came from national games such as lotteries, raffles and promotional draws under Coljuegos concession.

According to the president, this represented a 26.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Land-based gaming, including Raspa&Listo (a type of local scratch card) and local lotteries, contributed COP$317.4 billion, representing a 7% increase over the previous year.

Hincapié noted that the lottery segment saw a 5% increase in sales from January to June, despite the challenges posed by digital transformation.

According to Marco Emilio Hincapié, the country’s lottery performance is satisfactory. “We see that the lottery sector’s performance remains satisfactory. Despite the many challenges posed by technological transformation, the sector recorded a 5% increase in sales compared to the period from January to June last year,” said Hincapié.

Lotteries were highlighted in the transfer of funds

He highlighted that 15 departmental lotteries transferred COP$137.3 billion in total, with Bogotá, Huila, and Colombia’s Extraordinary Draw seeing the largest increases. The Boyacá and Medellín lotteries paid out the largest prize amounts.

The Medellín Lottery was named the best-selling lottery in the first half of 2025, while the Bogotá Lottery saw the highest growth in healthcare transfers.

Bibiana Garcés González, general manager of the Risaralda Lottery and host of the Congress, highlighted the importance of collaboration between national and regional operators to expand contributions to health..

The Congress also included discussions on innovation in lottery sales, corporate social responsibility, and the commercial expansion of games in physical spaces.
