The Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), an agency linked to the Ministry of Finance, and the Brazilian Digital Council (CD), signed an agreement with the aim of reinforcing security in the digital environment of the betting sector.
The partnership was signed this Thursday (3). According to the agencies, the cooperation agreement aims to improve the security and compliance of the betting market in the internet environment, and specifically, social medias. The signing took place in the auditorium of the headquarters building of the Ministry of Treasury.
Agreement between SPA and Digital Council serves as a monitoring tool for online platforms
The agreement is a cooperative action tool to prevent, detect and remove gambling-related content that is in breach of national legislation. One of the points is the establishment of bilateral communication channels between SPAs and digital platforms.
This will facilitate notifications of content that violates the law. Any removal can be done in an organized and faster manner. Therefore, the agreement also aims to ensure greater effectiveness in monitoring the digital environment based on legislation protecting children and adolescents.
The Digital Council of Brazil is a Brazilian association founded in 2019 that brings together eight of the main technology companies in the country, such as Google, Meta, TikTok, Kwai and Amazon.
According to the Secretary of Prizes and Betting, Regis Dudena, the agreement is an important tool for the sector. “This agreement is very important for the fixed-odds betting market in Brazil.”
“When the Prizes and Betting Secretariat began its work, it realized that there was such an intertwined connection with the digital world that it concluded that an agreement like this would be necessary”, added the Prizes and Betting Secretary.
“This is an unprecedented moment. For the first time, the ecosystem of application providers presents itself in a coordinated manner, as a collective, represented by the Digital Council of Brazil,” said Felipe França, executive director of the Digital Council.
Partnership built by many hands
All sectors of the SPA participated in the work to draft the agreement. The aim is to address one of the main challenges in achieving the protection of bettors and the popular economy: combating illegal betting sites and the advertising they carry out.
“The agreement with the Prizes and Betting Secretariat arises from the understanding that regulating fixed-odds betting, especially in the digital environment, requires not only standards, but also technical cooperation, institutional coordination and permanent channels of dialogue,” said França.
