STJD investigation recommends filing charges against Bruno Henrique for possible manipulation of results

The investigation opened by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) indicated that Bruno Henrique, Flamengo‘s striker, should be reported. The measure is based on article 243 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD), which deals with cases in which the athlete deliberately acts to the detriment of the team he represents.

If the complaint is formalized, the player may be suspended for a period ranging from 180 to 360 days. In addition, the penalty may include the payment of a fine ranging from R$100 to R$100,000.

Bruno Henrique was also reported by the Public Ministry of the Federal District (MPDFT). The reason was the yellow card he received during the match between Flamengo and Santos, in the 2023 Brazilian Championship.

According to investigations, the player’s brother, Wander Nunes Júnior (known as Juninho), knew about the punishment in advance and bet on this event, passing on the information to third parties.

Prosecutors are analyzing the complaint against Bruno Henrique and may include other names

The STJD used the investigation to gather information from the ordinary courts and include the statements of Bruno Henrique and others involved. The prosecutor’s office received the material on June 7 and has up to 60 days to decide whether to formalize the complaint or close the case.

According to UOL, the analysis is ongoing, with no forecast for completion. One of the points under evaluation is whether the complaint will cover other people. This is because Bruno Henrique’s brother and members of the group of gamblers mentioned in the investigations have already worked as soccer players.

The STJD may choose to include them in the process as a preventive measure. The intention would be to prevent them from escaping any disciplinary liability if they return to their professional activities.

Depending on the complaint and the requests made by the prosecutor’s office, Bruno Henrique may face a request for preventive suspension. However, so far, he remains fit to play matches.

§1 of the article adds that, if there is a promise or receipt of an advantage as the motivation for the infraction, the suspension may increase to 360 to 720 days. Finally, in the event of a repeat offense, the STJD may ban the player from the sport, in addition to applying a fine within the same range of amounts.
