Public Prosecutor’s Office maintains bail of R$2 million for Bruno Henrique, from Flamengo

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) has decided to maintain the R$2 million bail set for Flamengo striker Bruno Henrique during the investigation into possible match-fixing involving the player. The decision, revealed by the Leo Dias website and confirmed by Lance!, was based on official documents from the case.

Bruno Henrique’s defense tried to contest the bail, claiming that there were no legal requirements that would justify the precautionary measure.

Despite the objection, the MPDFT understood that it was necessary to charge bail, using article 319, paragraph eight, of the Code of Criminal Procedure as an argument. The objective is to guarantee Bruno Henrique’s participation in the acts of the judicial process and maintain the progress of the investigations.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office’s opinion highlighted that the athlete’s professional routine, marked by frequent national and international commitments, may make it difficult to comply with procedural obligations. Thus, it assessed that there is “undeniable uncertainty” regarding the player’s availability to appear before the Judiciary, considering the bail to be adequate and proportionate to the situation.

The process is ongoing and Flamengo has not yet issued an official statement about the case. Bruno Henrique, for now, remains at the disposal of the red-black squad, while his legal team analyzes the next steps in the defense.

Striker was indicated by the Federal Police

Bruno Henrique became the target of an investigation in 2024 on suspicion of involvement in match-fixing related to yellow cards. Operation Spot-Fixing, conducted by the Federal Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office, began after signs of irregularities in the matches.

The case began to receive more attention after a specific incident that occurred on November 1, 2023, in the match between Flamengo and Santos. In that game, he received a yellow card and was then sent off for persistently complaining to the referee.

Authorities are investigating whether the athlete forced the punishment, knowing that acquaintances could place bets on this type of event.

According to the Federal Police, Bruno Henrique allegedly favored his brother, sister-in-law, cousin and seven other bettors. These bettors placed bets at bookmakers such as Kaizen Gaming, GaleraBet and Betano, making profits of up to R$5,000 in some situations.

The messages found on the player’s brother’s phone show conversations in which Bruno Henrique confirms that he is “on hold” and instructs the best moment to receive the yellow card, providing elements for his indictment for fraud and fraud in a sporting event.

On April 16, 2025, the Federal Police formalized the criminal indictment of Bruno Henrique. In the sports field, the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) opened an investigation in November 2024 and received documents from the Federal Police in June 2025 for disciplinary evaluation.

Later, in May, Bruno Henrique gave testimony via videoconference to the sports court. His defense presented requests such as the archiving of the case and the change of the proceedings from the District Court to the Federal Court.

Flamengo’s position on the Bruno Henrique case

The case awaits definitions from the Public Ministry of the Federal District, responsible for deciding on the filing of a criminal complaint, while the STJD will evaluate possible punishments, such as suspension or fine in the sports scenario.

Flamengo keeps the athlete in the club’s activities and reaffirms the presumption of innocence, while judicial and disciplinary decisions may directly impact the player’s future.
