On Thursday (26), the international legal directory Chambers and Partners, founded in 1990 and headquartered in London, released its annual ranking of the best law firms and lawyers operating in the gaming and betting sector in Brazil.
This is an unprecedented list, which reinforces the legal relevance of the industry in the country. The full content can be accessed HERE.
In total, 11 law firms and 17 lawyers were recognized in three levels of excellence. The highest level, called “Band 1”, represents the greatest recognition in the international legal market in this segment.
The classification reinforces the advancement of legal action aimed at the betting sector, amid the growth of regulation in Brazil.
Leading firms and lawyers in the betting sector
Among the best-rated firms (in alphabetical order) are: Montgomery, Pinheiro Neto and Tozzini Freire. The most renowned lawyers were: André Santa Ritta (Pinheiro Neto), Caio Loureiro (Tozzini Freire), José Francisco Manssur (Carvalho Sica Muszkat Vidigal e Carneiro) and Neil Montgomery (Montgomery).
Neil Montgomery, founding partner of Montgomery, has worked in the sector for two decades and stated: “The pinnacle of international recognition for a lawyer is certainly seeing his firm and his name at the top of the Chambers and Partners ranking, which is respected for the depth, impartiality and independence of its market research.”
Montgomery also commented: “It is the culmination of a long journey, since the times when legalizing online gambling was not even considered, and of tireless teamwork.”
Finally, he added: “And I am very proud to have introduced dozens of lawyers to the industry, many of whom now hold senior positions in the legal departments of leading firms in the industry.”
According to the publication, the creation of this new practice area in Brazil reflects the growing importance of law specializing in gaming and betting, a sector that has become part of the platform’s global coverage, alongside twenty other areas of law.
