Brazilian Women’s Basketball Team participates in a lecture on preventing match-fixing

Recently, the athletes and coaching staff of the Brazilian Women’s Basketball Team participated in a lecture on sports integrity and prevention of match-fixing, held in São Paulo.

The activity was carried out by the Integrity team of Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, at the invitation of the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB). The action is part of an initiative aimed at the ethical and educational training of national teams.

In other words, it is part of the CBB’s commitment to the conscious and responsible development of its athletes. Therefore, the intention ends up being to strengthen the pillars of fair play and transparency in sport.

LND also carried out awareness-raising activities on sports integrity and match-fixing

The National Basketball League demonstrated that it is aware of the current scenario and all players and coaches of the 22 teams of the Basketball Development League, which started on Thursday (26), were able to attend a lecture on “Sports Integrity and Result Manipulation”.

The activity was led by Tiago Horta Barbosa, Head of Integrity for Latin America at Genius Sports, a partner of the LNB. All registered athletes also completed an “Integrity Commitment Form”.

Brazilian Women's Basketball Team gives a talk on preventing match-fixing

There were two sessions, which took place remotely last week. “It is very sad when athletes get involved illicitly with betting and match-fixing and end up having their careers harmed, and sometimes ended, because of this,” explained Tiago Horta.

At the meeting with players, representatives of LDB teams and referees, Horta explained how this problem directly affects the sport. And how these manipulations usually occur, who benefits from them and, most importantly, how to identify and combat them.

“By educating youth athletes about the risks of betting and match-fixing, we are protecting not only their careers, but also the future of basketball for future generations. More than just training players, we want to train citizens who are prepared for the ethical challenges of modern sports. That is our goal,” Horta concluded.
