New York has set a new record for gross gaming revenue (GGR) from online sports betting. As per data released by the New York State Gaming Commission, the state collected $248.9 million in May 2025.
This result represents an increase of 0.8% compared to the previous record of US$ 247 million, registered in January.
New York maintains annual growth in online gambling despite falling sales
Despite the record, sales volume in the state fell in May. US$2.21 billion was generated, representing a 10.8% drop compared to the US$2.48 billion in January.
On the other hand, the data shows progress in the annual comparison. Revenue increased 12.1% compared to the US$ 1.97 billion recorded in May 2024. GGR also grew 22.4% compared to the same month last year, which closed at US$ 203.3 million. Therefore, the operators’ win rate increased considerably.
In addition, net revenue allocated to education also showed significant growth. The commission allocated US$126.9 million to the state education fund, representing an increase of 22.4%.
Since the launch of mobile betting in January 2022, New York has accumulated over $6.5 billion in GGR. Of that, over $3.2 billion has been earmarked for education.
Providers increase revenue and legislative proposals remain pending
Platform providers also saw significant growth in May, with the total reaching $122 million, up nearly $28 million from $94.4 million in April.
This new record comes on the heels of April’s $192.7 million, a month that saw a 4.8% year-over-year increase in revenue and a 9.6% increase in sales. At the time, FanDuel and DraftKings remained the industry leaders, dominating both GGR and sales volume.
The latest data comes amid ongoing discussions in the New York Legislature. In April, lawmakers introduced proposals to restrict deposits and ban the use of credit cards in mobile sports betting. However, the bill has yet to be voted on.
