Coljuegos proposes regional lottery to fund environmental protection

During the 9th Ibero-American Gaming Summit, held in Lima on May 27th and 28th, Coljuegos, the entity responsible for regulating gaming in Colombia, presented an innovative proposal.

The initiative consists of creating a regional lottery whose profits will be used to combat the effects of climate change. In addition, the main focus is to protect the Amazon and Guarani, two regions seriously affected by global warming.

Environmental lottery proposal and its objectives

The president of Coljuegos, Marco Emilio Hincapié, presented the Ibero-American Loto initiative to representatives of ten participating countries.

“We hope that regulators will commit to the Ibero-American Loto to obtain resources that will allow us to protect the Amazon and the Guarani, two regions seriously affected by global warming,” Hincapié said during the event.

The initiative represents an innovative approach to connecting the gaming industry with environmental sustainability. Consequently, it demonstrates how the sector can contribute to relevant social causes while maintaining its commercial operation.

Creation of an international commission of regulators

One of the main outcomes of the summit was the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish an International Commission of Gambling Regulators. The main objectives of this commission will be to share experiences, strengthen regulation of the sector and combat illegal gambling in the region.

“We managed to include in the memorandum our proposal to create a regional association that would allow us to jointly fight against illegal gambling and support countries that are starting to regulate,” said Hincapié.

The commission will promote cooperation between member countries, facilitating the exchange of best practices and technologies to modernize the sector throughout Latin America.

Technological advances and regional participation

Coljuegos stood out at the summit for presenting its advances in controlling illegal online gambling through the implementation of artificial intelligence and process modernization.

“With this integration, we seek to improve the efficiency, social responsibility and environmental sustainability of the industry. We want to share all our experience with countries that are in the process of strengthening their regulatory bodies,” explained the president of the Colombian entity.

The event was attended by representatives from Ecuador, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Colombia. The experts discussed crucial topics for the sector, including regulation, taxation, artificial intelligence and the future challenges of the gaming industry in the region.

Coljuegos’ proposal sets an important precedent by demonstrating how the gaming industry can align its commercial objectives with urgent environmental causes, creating a business model that benefits both the sector and society.
