Former footballer Clifford Bull, 82, has taken home a £400,000 lottery prize, worth around R$2.5 million, in England. The prize is part of a total prize of £3.2 million, which was shared among residents of the area whose postcode was drawn in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

According to information from the English press, the bettor had the second highest share among the lottery winners in February.

Bull played professionally for Manchester United, where he began his career in 1957. However, he gained even more notoriety due to a terrible fatality.

Ten days after signing, the plane he was on crashed in Munich, killing 23 people, including eight players from the English club. Despite this, Bull survived the crash.

At that time, despite having a contract to play for the professional team, Bull played in the youth divisions of the English club. The main reason was his age, the player was only fifteen years old.

Therefore, his history with Manchester is fondly remembered by the player and his family. When the athlete was signed, he moved to a house next to the club’s stadium, Old Traffod.

After the accident and the great repercussions that arose from his survival, he continued to play football in England. He also played for United for two seasons and also signed with Nottingham Forest.

However, shortly after, Bull’s career as an athlete was interrupted by a serious knee injury and successive surgeries.

Lottery prize and plans with family

Now a retired plumber, the former athlete plans to use his lottery winnings to take a dream trip with his family. “I’m still speechless. It opens up so many possibilities,” he told Manchester Evening News.

According to him, his greatest wish is to take his 22 family members, including three daughters, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, on an unforgettable vacation.
