In 2024, the Caixa Lotteries recorded a historic collection mark, exceeding R$25.6 billion, driven by almost R$2.5 billion in bets on Mega da Virada.

This record was achieved in the context of the beginning of the regulation of online betting, known as bets, which compete with Caixa lotteries, which have a monopoly in this sector.

Caixa Econômica Federal will release the complete details for 2024 throughout January. So far, we can estimate revenue based on social transfers made up to November and data announced through a contest in December.

Transfers of amounts collected from Caixa Lotteries

The transfers of R$209.6 million to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee until November, which receives 0.96% of the revenue from the main lotteries, suggest that the lotteries raised R$21.84 billion until the end of November.

In December, Mega da Virada raised R$2.49 billion, representing an increase of 2.6% compared to the 2023 edition. During the same month, the other competitions, including Mega-Sena, Loto Fácil, Quina, Lotomania and +Milionária totaled R$1.3 billion in bets. Other lotteries such as Dupla Sena, Loteca, Loteria Federal, Super Sete and Dia da Sorte have a smaller share of the total collected.

Until then, the record for revenue was set in 2022, with R$25.50 billion, adjusted for inflation. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the years 2014 and 2015 recorded records, with bets exceeding R$23 billion annually, also corrected.

The increase in lottery revenue also benefits several social entities and funds. The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) received R$377 million until November. With Mega da Virada, Loto Fácil and Quina in December, the transfer will exceed R$440 million. In 2022, the COB received R$436 million, adjusted by the IPCA.

In turn, the National Culture Fund, which received R$720 million in 2022, is expected to exceed R$732 million. The criteria for dividing these values, established by Law 13,756/2018, have remained the same since 2019.
